Review: Watershed Straight Bourbon Finished In Great Lakes Barrel Aged Christmas Ale Barrels, Limited Release
Distillery: Watershed
Read More/>
ABV/Proof: 53.7/107.3
Age Statement: 6 years, Finished for 9 months
Mash Bill: 72% Corn 21% Rye 7% Malted Barley
If you’re in Ohio, or planning a trip here soon, Watershed may have piqued your interest in starting your Christmas shopping a little early. Great Lakes Christmas Ale hardly needs an introduction, but finishing a bourbon in their Barrel Aged Christmas Ale barrels is sure to catch the attention of many, even those who don’t typically reach for bourbon.
Nose: Fresh cut oak, toffee, baking spice, and subtle red fruit. I would say this nose is very toffee forward.
Palate: Red fruits emerge right away leading into clove and cinnamon spice. As I work my way further, sour fruit, subtle toffee and tannic oak. Though I do find some notes, I think the baking spice is incredibly dominant.
Finish: Like I mentioned in the palate, it’s very dominant baking spice giving a long lasting hug, subtle red fruits and drying oak.
Rating: 6.6/10
I think this is a cool collaboration and one that’ll be a great conversation piece during the holidays, if you are lucky enough to find a bottle. With that being said, I also think this is teetering on being too baking spice forward for some. Regardless, keep your eyes peeled in select OHLQ stores for this. Cheers!🥃🥃

Smells like a confectionary factory. Bright strawberry candy like that candy that has the wrapper that looks like a strawberry. A bit of cherry licori Read Morece as well towards the back. I also get a gorgeous perfume sweet & spicy combo.
Oh man this drinks special. Get a bit of ethanol but once the wave passes I’m greeted with a gushers-like burst of flavor that makes me want to savor every second of the experience. The finish isn’t terribly long but the initial blast of flavor and the lingering tingling sensation I’m left with makes me ok with it. Like life, some things aren’t meant to last forever, so it’s best to enjoy them while they are there. This bourbon is turning me philosophical.

Finally cracking open the Old Fitzgerald 7yr.
The hype is real.
The nose has butterscotch, creamy vanilla bean, and fresh Read More baked bread.
The texture is very pleasant and thick. Very good legs on the glass.
The flavor profile has notes of apricot weaved in with the caramel, lightly fruity with some oak spice at the very end, the creamy texture makes the vanilla bean and toasted banana that comes through on the finish feel like a dessert.
Fantastic!
If you can pay MSRP or close to it, This is fantastic!

Wild Turkey isn’t normally my go to but I have to give respect where respect is due with this release. I get cherry cola and cinnamon.
Read More Palate I still get a full body cherry and a nutty funk. Reminds me of a nice dusty knob creek bit with more cherry. Nice full body and good finish. A good staple of my bar.
