➡️Review: Old Fitz 7 Year Spring&Fall Compare and Contrast
Stats
•Distillery: Old Fitzgerald (Heaven Hill)
•Proo Read Moref: 100 Bottled-In- Bond
•Mash Bill/Age Statement: 68% Corn, 20% Wheat and 12% Malted Barley. 7 years
When Heaven Hill announced there would be two annually releases, it got me to wondering right away. How much could these vary from each other and which one would stand out a little more if they did. Today, let’s review both and see!
➡️Profile Spring
•Nose: Baking spice, orange zest, brown sugar, mixed berries, vanilla, oak and tobacco.
•Palate: Oak,honey, orange zest, red fruits, caramel, graham crackers and brown sugar.
•Finish: Cinnamon hug, vanilla and lingering red fruits.
➡️Profile Fall
•Nose: Subdued baking spice compared to spring, brown sugar, red fruits, vanilla and oak
•Palate: Oak, red fruits, caramel, brown sugar, musty rickhouse and orange zest.
•Finish: Cinnamon hug as well coming off essentially the same as spring, cherry/strawberry punch and vanilla.
•Rating: 6.9 out of 10
•Conclusion:
As I finished this up and started to think about which one I enjoyed more, I went back to which area I liked more on each. Spring had a fantastic nose, I felt the palates reversed but I liked falls palate and finish a little more. If you’re wondering why I preferred falls palate more, it’s simply because the orange flavoring came off a lot stronger in springs batch and that isn’t necessarily my jam in large amounts. Regardless, it’s splitting hairs and either are worth a pickup. Bonus if you can get a bag! But, I wouldn’t go chasing and pay something x times over msrp on these either.
Happy New Years, Cheers!🥃
