Blue Note Honey Rye Cask 2025 release
"Honey Sweet Blues"
Blue Note Honey Rye Cask is made by first aging rye whiskey with a mash bill of 95% rye and 5% malted barley for at least four years then finishing it in barrels that were used to rye whiskey finish honey. The circle of rye life I guess!🤣
It is bottled at barrel Strength, coming in at 116.46 proof. I picked this up from @consumerdiscountwineliquor for
$64.
It is burnished copper in color and likely due to the honey, has great legs after a swirl in the glass.
On the nose sweet honey dominates along with notes of fruit, vanilla. It has a slight floral nose with marigold and wildflowers.
On the palate, it is rich and mouth coating and it follows the nose. It starts and carries to the finish swwet with honey, and pepper. At the mid palate it adds apricot jam and hints of spearmint.
The finish is long with sweet honey, pepper and oak. Adding water brings out more sweetness and apricot and fruit notes.
The swallow gives good hig evincing proof and is amplified by oak and rye spice. It is an awesome sipper.
For cocktails, we tried it in an old fashioned and a highball but it was truly great in an American Trilogy with Lairds 7 1/2 year Old brandy. We also paired it neat with light wrapper cigar. I went with a nice Oliva Connecticut reserve. Excellent!

I normally don’t reach for 4 Roses but after trying this Barrel Strength OBSO store pick it’s got me rethinking my decisions. I was very happy with the subtle spice and sweetness that comes through on the nose and palette very gentle flavors. In the past the 4 roses I’ve had were too spicy for me so this was definitely a nice surprise.
Very subtle rye spice and that’s not a word I normally use for rye spice. Great bottle add I will definitely be on the hunt for more 4 roses in the future

Sagamore Reserve 10 year Rye
"Highness Rye"
Sagamore Reserve 10 Year Rye is blend of 10 year old low and high rye whiskies.
IMy bottle is from Batch 3A Bottle 4183 and picked it up from @leisersliquors for $75.
It is light chestnut in color and has strong legs on the glass.
The nose gives aromas of sweet dark fruits, peach, molasses, and seasoned wood.
On the palate it starts of sweet wirh brown sugar, peach, to a rich creme brulee. At the mid palate it becomes underlying vegetal and herbal with ginger, pepper and oak. It finishes with consistent creme brulee sweetness, pepper and oak.
Adding water adds citrus note and enhance the pepper notes.
The swallow gives a solid but sweet peppery hug that matches the proof.
In cocktails we tried it in Rye Flip and a Ruby Manahattan it shined both but was awesome in an Old Fashioned with walnut bitters. It is a great sipper and great in a cocktail. Considering this

"The Beauty Bourbon"
Frank August Small Batch Bourbon, the 2025 IWSC Bourbon of the Year, Is a Kentucky sourced and distilled bourbon with an undisclosed mashbill and being a straight bourbon it is at least 4 years old. It cines in at 100 proof.I picked it up from @midvalleywine for $67.
It cones in a artsy bottle and is light auburn in color.
On the nose it has aromas of apple, caramel, orchard fruits and citrus.
The palate it is vanilla caramel that evolves to a citrus at the mid palate to green apple, nut bread, cinnamon and pepper.
The finish is midlength with that green apple, a hint of brown sugar, citrus cinnamon and oak. The hug is modest for 100 proof.
It is a good sipper but also a few drops of water pbrings out the apple and sweetness but still allows for the citrus note to stand out.
In cocktails it made a good Manhattan and nice old fashioned. It was also good in a Sazerac.
The drawback to this bottle is the price. There are much better pours in this price range and below it has some complexity but not enough to justify the price.
Considering all this Frank August Small Batch is 100% Blue Pig approved!
