Penelope Barrel Strength bourbon is a non chill filtered, four grain blended from 3 different distillate mash bills for a cumulative mash bill 82% corn, 8% wheat ,7% rye ' and 3% malted barley.and aged 4 to 6 years. It comes in at 114 proof.
I picked this up at @midvalleywine for $62. My bottle was Batch 20
On the nose gives aromas of caramel vanilla, cinnamon,
On the palate it starts sweet with caramel that adds orange peel, cinnamon, oak and pepper at the mid palate.
Very traditional bourbon taste.
It finishes long with brown sugar, and continues citrus and peppery oak. Slightly drying.
It swallows with a firm hug evincing its proof.
It is a fair sipper but is better on ice or with water which brings out it sweet and citrus notes.
In cocktails it is a star. Its proof and citrus notes make great Old fashioneds and Mahattan Transfers. If you love Penelope white label, this is definitely for you.

Elijah Craig Barrel Proof C919 is a beast of a bottle and it hurts to see this one go. The don’t make Elijah Craig barre proofs like they used to. The 12 year aged statement was a big loss recently and I feel like the quality has just gone down as the years progress.
A little taste of history with deep rich oak and powdered sugar a nice thick brown sugar glaze. High proof for sure but if you can handle the proof you are rewarded with a flavor bomb and finish for days.
