Let’s have some fun!
#1 Nose: Strong Caramel, tobacco, oak, red fruits
Palate: Over riding orange.. Very orange fl Read Moreavoring forward, caramel and oak, tobacco, red fruits come through very bitter.
Finish: Unfortunately, I’ve found the orange flavor to take over way too much on this.
#2 Nose: Dark fruits that turn more cherry forward, vanilla and a fantastic rich oak as the backbone throughout.
Palate: Rich oak, dark fruits, caramel and classic “sweet sour” note, which at this point I’m fairly certain I know what it is and cherry starts to be forefront.
Finish: Red fruits and very sweet vanilla.
#3 Nose: Dark berries, oak, vanilla, sweet strawberries and punch like note.
Palate: Very strong cherry, caramel, oak, punch and a hint of tobacco.
Finish: Caramel and at this point I’m fairly certain I put it together as Old Fitz. I find what I’ve always described as Heaven Hill Fruit Punch in the finish.
Wild Turkey 8 Year ended up being my winner, with Old Fitz and OGD right behind it. I’ve always been a Turkey fan, but honestly, I could see Old Fitz taking the top spot if I ran this blind again. The biggest surprise was how much I didn’t enjoy Old Grand-Dad. I thought it would hold up better. Blinds really are a mix of fun and surprising at the same time. Read Less
