This bourbon is incredibly light in weight and mouthfeel. this is what i would call a "beginner's whiskey". there is very little in the way of complexity or character outside of the grain profile. notes of light honey speckled with bits of cinnamon and vanilla meet my palate first followed by that ever-noticeable grain flavor. sweet corn mixed with butterscotch mixed with pecan mixed with toasted wood. not incredibly standout-ish but not that terrible either.
The nose is actually not too bad on this bourbon for what i assume is a 4-year product. it's got wonderful notes of brown sugar and honey followed by a wave of marshmallows and toasted bread. the color is very light in my glencairn glass which reaffirms my suspicion that this whiskey isn't terribly old. as i swirl the glass, i can pick up more of those grain notes that are common with minimally aged whiskeys. very little ethanol comes off the nose. not surprising considering the 80-proof point. as i let the bourbon sit and develop in the glass, more of the grain characteristic comes through on the nose.
The finish is surprisingly long for how low proof this whiskey is. there is a strong note of black pepper that is tingling the side of my palate, while notes of honey and sweet cinnamon come through on the front palate.
