Weller 107 it’s such a good bottle. The perfect middle ground for price, flavor, proof point. Great strawberry sweetness oak and milk chocolate. A b Read Moreit of ethanol but the flavor is worth it.
This screw top store pick also makes this bottle special since it’s from a simpler time before the bourbon boom and the average age of bourbon was higher since there was less demand. Read Less

Eagle Rare 12 Years
By Buffalo Trace
95 Proof
Appearance - This pour has a dark amber hue to it. After a quick Read Moreswirl in the glen you see it coats the glen well and then slowly begins to develop thick moderately spaced legs that stream down the glass back to the pour. It does begin to form a second wave of legs that just seem to melt into the glen and disappear almost as fast as they appear. The pour looks wonderful, I can’t wait to enjoy this!
Nose - As you begin to gently get into this pour you get a sweetness that is slightly overcome by vanilla and caramel. But as you get deeper into the glen that sweetness begins to become more noticeable and it is very much like a grape jolly rancher. Wow… not at all what I was expecting! You also get a nice amount of oak and baking spice as well. But this nose is absolutely wonderful, much better than the 10 year, dare I say.
Palate - As you take that first sip you get hints of vanilla and dark brown sugar. You get a nice punch of oakiness as the pour feels a little drying pretty quickly. As you take a second sip that grape just explodes onto the scene and just lingers with a nice baking spice. The nose carries over to the palate nicely and the palate is very enjoyable to say the least.
Finish - As you sit with this pour you get grape and vanilla sweetness with a bit of smokiness, which is not strong but it is there. There is also a nice original bubble gum note that comes in on the backend of the finish and it mingles well with what is going on. The finish is medium short and you wish it was longer.
Overall - I was hoping for so much more from this pour and it just didn’t deliver that much of an upgrade from the 10 year. While it has more oak, as it should, it doesn’t offer that much more complexity even at the 5 extra proof points and 2 extra years. Don’t get me wrong, this is a solid pour, but when you consider it compared to the 10 year…. Sadly, it just isn’t enough of an upgrade to warrant getting it over the 10 year.
Score #/10 - With as good as this pour is, it comes across as a bit of a disappointment. Perhaps if we didn’t have the 10 year we would absolutely rave about this pour. But since we do and this isn’t a pour that blows that pour out the water, I am comfortable giving this pour a 7.8/10 which is much lower than I was hoping to give it. Honest being honest, I will not be looking for a backup and may not replace this one once it is gone. Read Less
